I sat down with Chelsea to learn more about her journey, her vision, and what makes Modern Mane stand out.

Chelsea, tell us about your salon and why you chose this path.
Modern Mane Salon specializes in extensions and helping women experiencing hair loss. I chose this focus because of a loved one’s struggle with hair loss—it made me realize how deeply hair impacts confidence. It’s so rewarding to see a client walk out not just with beautiful hair, but with a whole new sense of self.

What inspires you in your work?
Helping women feel amazing! There’s something magical about watching someone sit taller, smile wider, and leave ready to take on the world. That’s what drives me—knowing I’m making a difference in how someone feels about themselves.

What challenges have shaped you as a business owner?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the value of collaboration. Working with other professionals has been so important. It’s easy to feel like you need to know it all, but embracing the opportunity to learn from others has been a game-changer for me.

What are your long-term goals for Modern Mane?
I want to pass down my work ethic and drive to my daughters. Showing them what it means to work hard and chase your dreams is so important to me. On a professional level, I’m developing my own line of raw hair extensions. It’s been a dream of mine to create a product that offers both exceptional quality and the flexibility to meet my clients’ needs.

Who has influenced you the most?
My parents, for sure. They taught me that hard work and perseverance pay off. They also showed me that failure isn’t the end—it’s a chance to learn and grow. Those lessons have guided me every step of the way.

What makes Modern Mane unique?
We’re not your typical salon! I specialize in custom colors and extensions, tailoring everything to fit each client’s vision. My goal is to provide a service that’s not only beautiful but also empowering.

What advice would you give someone starting out in your field?
Be prepared to work hard—really hard—and don’t expect to make a lot at first. Focus on learning. Absorb everything you can from everyone around you. The more you learn, the better you’ll become.

What’s one thing you can’t live without?
My big cup of water! I take it everywhere, and it drives my husband nuts. Oh, and if I can sneak in two ski trips a week, I’m a happy woman.

Any surprising bucket list items?
Traveling abroad! I haven’t done much exploring yet, but I’m ready to step out of my comfort zone and see the beauty of the world.

What’s next for Modern Mane Salon?
My focus right now is on developing my own line of raw hair extensions. It’s such an exciting project, and I can’t wait to offer something truly special to my clients.

Any parting thoughts?
I’m so grateful to be part of the Clinton County community. The support and kindness here are incredible—it’s something I never take for granted. My mission will always be to help women become the best version of themselves, one transformation at a time.

Anything else you’d like to share?
I do a lot of continuing education that doesn’t go towards my Cosmetology license or anything. I strictly do it to improve my work behind the chair. It’s many hours that no one sees, but it’s what brings me closer to being the stylist I want to be.
